Dearest Mobile Marketer… Can You Please Leave Me Alone!

You are here: Home » Marketing » Dearest Mobile Marketer… Can You Please Leave Me Alone!

Last Updated: April 27, 2014

Recently I’ve started getting a barrage of messages trying to sell me insurance, encourage me to sue for past accidents and even more beyond. I don’t want or need these and the companies are too afraid to even let me know who they are or where they got my data from! These people shouldn’t be allowed to continue and inspired the following template…

Dearest Mobile Marketer, My mobile phone number is an asset to be cherished & not a commodity to be sold on without a second thought. No matter how many times you re-word those texts I don’t, and never will, want your assistance with legal matters or whatever untargeted offer you are selling today. Especially if you can’t even respect the privacy of my phone number. Although I doubt a single message will put you off this path you should know that I’m not alone and you will burn your lists much faster and earn much less than if you’d taken time to know me, and those other “numbers” in your database and sold them stuff they actually want. WAIT! I don’t mind being sold to?! Yes there are things I need and want right now but, sadly at this point, it seems you will never know what... Here is hoping this venture fails fast and you learn your lessons sooner rather than later! Yours Sincerely, Daniel McClure www.danielmcclure.com

I have nothing against mobile marketing in general; in fact I have supplied several companies with my number for the sole purpose of providing me SMS updates. I’ve promoted and taken part in a mobile marketing course and always keep an eye on the latest updates. You could even go as far as calling me a mobile marketing enthusiast. In spite of this, or perhaps because of this, it really bugs me that there are some companies who don’t seem to give care about their relationship with you and are willing to sell out your number for a couple of bucks (if that!).

No matter how many times I reply with their required “STOP” message it only seems to encourage them. If you know of any more effective methods of getting these companies to stop messaging indiscriminately and ruining it for everyone, then please feel free to share in the comments below!

Yes! I know exactly what you mean….I’ve been getting texts too without me even opting into anything wanting to sell me ringtones for a $10 per month charge..they are crazy lol! I think if you call your phone company they should be able to block messages from that certain sender…I haven’t tried that but it might work…

But when used properly text message marketing can be a powerful tool like you said..only when you take the time to know the customer and send them timely and RELEVANT offers…

    Talk soon Dan!

I think it can be only stooped for good via Law enforce. However you can always try to complain to your provider.
